History:
First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) was founded in 1915. In 1963, the congregation moved to its present location at 1800 12th Street. In the 1990's, the church shepherded a low income, senior citizen HUD housing project to completion.  The housing project is adjacent to the church and church members serve on the board.  The church commits 15% of its offering to outreach.

We Believe in:
  • Open Communion. The Lord's Supper, or Communion, is celebrated in weekly worship. It is open to all believers.
  • Baptism by immersion. In baptism the old self-centered life is set aside, and a new life of trust in God is made possible. Although Disiciples generally practice baptism by immersion, they honor other baptism traditions as well.
  • Acceptance of Christ:  Believing Christ is the Savior; he was born, died and arose again.
  • Importance of church unity. All Christians should cooperate in ministry wherever possible, affirming each other as sisters and brothers in Christ. EVERYONE IS WELCOME
  • The ministry of all believers. Both ministers and lay persons lead worship, direct service opportunities and nurture spiritual growth.
  • Freedom of belief. Disciples are called together around one essential of faith: belief in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior
We not only believe in giving a tithe (a percentage of what you receive) to God but also our time and talents to him.  He does not ask for money alone but for us to give our time and share our talents.
Box Day is the 2nd the Tuesday of every month from noon to one.  This program gives out boxes of food.

YAK (Young Adult Court) is held every Sunday from 3-5. This is a social time for those recovering from addictions.
Mission:
To Reach Up, Reach Out, and Reach In

Vision:
To  see people saved, healed, set free, discipled, equipped, empowered and serving. To grow in Christ.

When he had washed their feet and put on his outer garments and resumed his place, he said to them, “Do you understand what I have done to you? You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet,
you also ought to wash one another's feet.
John 13:12-14 ESV

About the Denomination

Our Identity
We are Disciples of Christ, a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world.
As part of the one body of Christ, we welcome all to the Lord’s Table as God has welcomed us.

Our Vision
To be a faithful, growing church, that demonstrates true community, deep Christian spirituality and a passion for justice.
– Micah 6:8

Our Mission
To be and to share the Good News of Jesus Christ, witnessing, loving and serving from our doorsteps “to the ends of the earth.”
– Acts 1:8

Our Confession
As members of the Christian Church,
We confess that Jesus is the Christ,
the Son of the living God,
and proclaim him Lord and Savior of the world.
